Jar Al Jabal

Jordanian cooking with Ajloun Castle across the valley

A family restaurant and café at the Ajloun Castle visitor centre, serving a traditional breakfast, charcoal grills and sajiyeh on a terrace that looks straight at the castle.

Your neighbour on the mountain

The neighbour of the mountain

Jar Al Jabal means "neighbour of the mountain", and the name is literal. The restaurant sits inside the limestone visitor centre at the foot of the castle road, so the Ayyubid fortress fills the view from the terrace and the valley drops away on the other side.

The kitchen serves Jordanian food made for sharing. Mornings start with a baladi breakfast of hummus, labaneh, white cheese, olives, za’atar and eggs with fresh bread. Later in the day the table turns to charcoal-grilled meats, sajiyeh cooked on the saj, and plates of salads and mezze.

Most visitors come here before or after the castle and the cable car, which are both a few minutes away. The restaurant publishes this guide to answer the questions visitors ask most: what else to see, how to get there and where to buy tickets.

  • A terrace table facing Ajloun Castle
  • Traditional baladi breakfast from 9:30 every day
  • Charcoal grills and sajiyeh for a shared lunch or dinner
  • Room for families and large groups, with parking on site
